Well, it’s official. If I change my mind now then I’ll have to explain to the world why we broke up right after changing my relationship status. Thankfully, I’m not planning on changing my mind. I’m in it for the long haul!

To be completely honest, making this decision hasn’t been easy. It has been a journey in and of itself. Can anyone else relate? Do you face decisions that involve so many moving parts attached with a million different pros and cons?  My hand is definitely up, and not just in this decision, but with many others that I’ve faced.

So how do we make the right decision? Is it possible to be confident that the decision we make is according to God’s plan for us? Well, first let me say that I am no expert, but here are three insights I’ve learned over the years that I hope will be an encouragement and help to you.

1. God Will Guide.

This is a fact. There are so many Scriptures God has given us assuring us that He is with us, He is leading us, He is working on our behalf, He is interested in our day-to-day schedule, and He desires us to FOLLOW Him. But, if you’re like me, then you tend to doubt this. Feelings often override facts and it is easy to slip into deception – believing the lie that God is distant, disinterested, and deserting you. This is false. Rest assured that God is present, He is working, and we can trust 100% that He will guide us.

2. We Must Commit To Follow… No Matter What.

“Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.” – Luke 18:22

Here’s a better question, Do you really want Jesus to lead you? The reason I ask is because Jesus loves to point to that thing (whatever it may be) we hold behind our back and ask, “Are you willing to surrender that so that I can truly guide you?” See, we want Jesus to shine light on our path when there is a decision to make and yet we often hold on to our own agenda. I am sooooooo guilty of this. I’ve learned that Jesus doesn’t want part of me, He wants all of me. There is a price to pay to follow Jesus, this is true. However, it is so worth it! Let us put feet to our words and abandon all to Jesus.

3. Confidence In Jehovah!

I often tend to place so much emphasis and focus on myself when making a decision. have to sacrifice. need to pray and fast. need to read Scripture. need to seek counsel. I, I, I… Now, please don’t misunderstand me, all of these things are good things. In fact, I highly recommend you do all of those things, but don’t misplace your focus or your confidence. It is GOD who will work, it is God who will move mountains, and it is God who must receive worship and glory. This takes so much pressure off of our frail human mind, body, and emotions. At the end of the day we are so loved by ALMIGHTY God! He is Jehovah, He is working in all things, and He will meet us in our need. So let’s be confident! We haven’t been given the spirit of fear… but of power, love, and a sound mind. Take the decision-making pressure off of yourself, hand it to God, and watch with confidence as He works. Then move with confidence when He tells you to go.

I, like you, have so much to learn about God, about life, and even about myself. However, I know who I am… I am a child of the Living God. I know what I am… I am the object of His unconditional, never-ending love. And I know my purpose… to worhsip and glorify Him with the life He has given me.

Therefore, I will surrender all to Him knowing that He will guide, and that I can make bold decisions because ultimately, my confidence is in Him and in what He reveals to me.

I will not go gentle into that dark night… because He is with me.
